Jack Edwards hits ton and wins MOM in Australian U/19s debut

Jack Edwards on his way to a century in the 3 day U19 Test against Sri Lanka

Jack Edwards hit a fantastic century on his Australian U19s test debut on Saturday against Sri Lanka.

His innings led to him being named Man of the Match at the completion of the drawn match.

Coming in at the unfamiliar position of #5, and with the team in a precarious position at 3 for 45, Jack made a rather slow start before combining with fellow centurian Jon Merlo from Victoria to plunder 140 runs in just over an hour of the final sessions to set-up a declaration for the Australians.

Edwards and Merlo shared a special 182 run stand for the 5th wicket, taking special liking to the spinners.

Jack's ton came off 186 balls and included 6 fours and 3 sixes. He was eventually dismissed for 106. He allowed Australia to declare on 6 for 309 towards the end of day one.

Despite a rain affected day, the Aussies were well on top at the end of day 2 with Sri Lanka 9 for 149.

Speaking to at the end of day 1, Jack said that he was just happy to get the team out of a bit of a hole.

"It was doing a bit early, they had it swinging around and they bowled really well".

"After being 3 for 40, we just dug in and blocked it, then after tea we cashed in against the spinners".

"We said that we would get to tea and look again for what we want, then bat again for 25 overs and see how many runs we could get."

Although not having the best year with the bat for the Tahs with just the one 50, he brings an extra string to his bow with his quality medium-fast bowling.

Jack made his 1st grade debut this season and is a player of the future at the Waratahs.
