Tahs Swing For The SkiesBounce Back
THE only good thing about our first-up loss to Hawkesbury last Saturday was we did not have to wait long for a shot at redemption.

After we were soundly beaten by the Hawks in a one-dayer at Richmond, we were back in action against Easts in the opening T20 clash of the season last Sunday. And what a difference a day makes.

With the injection of two young debutants, in local juniors Zach Trewartha and Sam Gainsford, we had a real zip and purpose in everything we did at Waverley Oval.

Chasing 113, some brilliant batting from club captain Jay Lenton (46) and an all-round effort from Ahillen Beadle (31 not out and 1-24) got the boys home with five wickets and six overs to spare.

With many other games around Sydney not starting due to rain, it was a valuable win.

Zach and Sam did not get a lot of opportunities to shine but they didn’t look out of place in the top grade.

Zach is the son of former first grade opener Ross Trewartha while Sam’s dad David was a very good allrounder with the clubs for years, and is now our vicepresident.

Both Sam and Zach came through our junior system and up through the Green Shield and grade ranks.

Both hit the ball long, can bowl, and are great fielders.

You will be hearing a lot more about them over the next few years if they continue to develop.

OUR lower grades had a mixed start to the season, with a heavy loss in seconds offset by terrific wins in thirds, fourths and fifths.

Seconds were bowled out for a paltry 68, with not one batsman making a meaningful contribution.

Hawkesbury passed our total six wickets down.

In third grade, the ageless Warren Evans led the way, compiling an undefeated 68 to go past 5000 grade runs for Manly.

Openers Luke Edgell (88 not out) and Billy D’Arcy (51) were the architects of fourth grade’s comfortable nine-wicket victory, while fifths won by the same margin after the returning Toby Poole and debutant Tom Sheedy put on a 60-run partnership.
