Tahs Swing For The SkiesSmithAUSTRALIA’S cricket captain Steve Smith yesterday revealed Manly all-rounder Steve O’Keefe and Wakehurst Redbacks junior Jackson Bird remain in the selection mix for the upcoming three Test series against the West Indies.

Speaking at a grassroots sponsorship announcement for Seaforth Cricket Club with dual international Ellyse Perry at Balgowlah North Public School, the 26year-old was his usual candid self.

“From what I hear Jackson is bowling very well at the moment (for Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield) and Steve wasn’t far away from getting a start in the Adelaide game (against New Zealand),’’ he said.

“The grass on the wicket didn’t help his cause, but SOK is definitely thereabouts.

“Unfortunately for him the recent Bangladesh tour was called off. That would have been great for him.

“If the pitch is spinfriendly in Sydney next month for the third Test, I wouldn’t be surprised if he (O’Keefe) is given an opportunity from the selectors.”

Perry is frenetic leading into Christmas.

She is looking forward to representing the Sydney Sixers in the inaugural women’s T20 Big Bash League tbis summer and turning out for Sydney FC in the W-League.

“I am really excited about the Big Bash, the level of interest in the build up to the competition has been great,’’ she said.

“A number of quality players from all over the world have agreed to play for a number of different franchises, I think it is long overdue.

“In terms of football, we (Sydney FC) are now back in the top four at the moment which is pleasing after our slow start.

“It will be a busy summer but I am happy with that.”

Seaforth’s junior stars were understandably buzzing yesterday.

Not only did they meet two of their heroes in the flesh, they will also receive $2000 annually the next two years as well as club cricket equipment, all thanks to Commonwealth Bank.
