Tahs closing in on Club Championship - Monday News Rd 14 vs UNSW wk 1

Round 14 saw the TravelSim Manly-Warringah Waratahs take on the students of UNSW with a return to 2-day cricket for the 4 lower grades while 1st grade played a one-dayer at The Village Green. With finals cricket approaching and all grades in the mix for silverware, this round could prove crucial for the Tahs in their bid for premiership glory.

Unfortnately, 1st grade had their maiden defeat of the season going down to UNSW by 21 runs. Chasing 280 for victory, contributions from Crosthwaite (68) and Beadle (48) weren't enough to secure the points. Even with this defeat Tim Cruickshank's men will still finish top of the competition regardless of the result against Mosman in a fortnights time and will use the momentum of Sunday's semi-final victory against Easts to continue the push towards finals. This result on Sunday was particularly impressive from the TravelSim Waratahs who had the Dolphins 8/74 when rain disrupted play in their pursuit of 230. James Munting's crucial 4 top-order wickets and Jay Lenton's 72 were the key performances which has set up a grand-final showdown with Bankstown at Caringbah Oval next week.

In the lower grades, 2's have already secured first innings points after rolling UNSW for 97 on Manly Oval. The ever-reliable Mickey Visser did the most damage with 4 wickets as the Tahs accumulated a 36 run lead with a day to play. 3rd grade recovered from the loss of 4 early wickets to make a defendable 221. A crucial 118 run partnership for the 8th wicket between Sam Hole (91*) and Luke Grant (51) has given Warren Evan's side a chance of taking the 6 points and maintaining their momentum approaching finals.

4th grade compiled 259 on the back of Ed Burgess's brilliant hundred and more clinical hitting from Zac Trewartha (80). A late wicket to Josh Wigney has given the Tahs further control in that contest. Finally 5's also compiled a strong total making 8/264 thanks to runs from Billy D'Arcy (78), Jack Pickering (54) and James Boyer (34).

So with only a few wins required to seal the coveted Club Championship and a 1st grade final on Sunday, this weekend could prove to be a special one for the TravelSim Waratahs as they push to claim their first bits of silverware for the season. Good luck boys and up the Tahs!

4 Pines P4 Pines Logolayer of the Week - Ed Burgess

This weeks 4 Pines Brewery Player of the Week goes to club favourite Ed Burgess for his dominant century in 4th grade over the weekend. Having made consistent starts over the past couple of weeks, Ed cashed in this time against The Students at the atmospheric Grahams Reserve. showing off his array of shots and batting prowess, Ed picked apart the UNSW attack to lead Josh Pietersen's men to a strong total of 259.

Having been around the club since he was a junior, this performance continues to emphasis how Ed is one of the most talented cricketers around the club at the moment and will have a big role to play for the Tahs leading into finals. Well done Eddy!
