Green Shield Round 7 vs Sydney - Match Report
Manly Warringah 85 (K. Martin 18) def by Sydney 227 (J Brewster 2/42)
After Sydney won the toss and put themselves into bat on very well prepared Manly Oval deck. To their surprise facing up against the spin twins Bailey Kenzie and Ben Watts in the opening overs. Sydney started off a bit shaky due to the change of pace from usual, Bailey Kenzie dismissed the imported Englishman, breaking the 64 run partnership. With wickets taken in clumps, two from skipper Jordan Brewster and one from Will Greenland we were looking good having Sydney 4/97. Unfortunately, we took our foot of the pedal and dropped off in our intensity, fielding and bowling areas and Sydney raced away with a 103 run partnership for the 5th wicket. With two Sydney batsman putting on a bit of a cameo at the end, Sydney made 227 after their 50 overs.
After a fabulous lunch provided by the Manly parents Jake Osborne and Ned Barnet walked out to chase down 227l on a flat Manly Oval deck. We didn't get off to an ideal start, with inform Jake Osborne falling in the first over. Bringing Kyle Martin to the crease. With Barnet and Martin forming a 43 run partnership (being the biggest of our innings), Barnet fell. Brewster fell not long afterwards and not long after that Martin as well. After a brief little cameo from Aidan Bennett wickets fell in clumps. A complete collapse at one point losing 4 wickets for only 2 runs we were in massive trouble. Eventually we were bowled out for 85.
I believe this result does not replicate our character throughout the season. Winning 4 from 6 games and narrowly missing out on quarter finals berth, we showed great spirit all the way through the season. Largely due to support from our coaches Tom Kaye and Mike Pawley. Along with the Management of Ross Denny and Clint Colyer we were in good hands.
