U/11s and U/15s Junior Rep sides make Grand Final

This coming Sunday the Manly Warringah Junior Cricket Association U/11 and U/15 representative sides will be lining up in their Grand Finals against North Shore and Bankstown respectively.

The U/11s will be playing at Lionel Watts while the U/15s will be gracing the hallowed turf of Manly Oval.

It was a scintillating day if cricket on Sunday with 4 teams battling it out in semi-finals for the right to play in the grand final. The threat of rain was always around, and with our U/15s and U/11s both playing at home, all they needed was a draw for victory.

Our U/16s and U/12 teams were playing away and needed to win due to finishing lower on the table than their opponent. The U/12s unfortunately had no result with 7 more balls needed to be bowled for there to be a game before the thunder and lightning came. We needed 10 more runs from those 7 balls, so it was going to be a close one. The U/12 boys won their U/11 grand final last year so were looking to go back to back, but it wasn't to be.

The U/16s were also up against it at Bankstown Oval. Chasing Bankstown's 187 to win, the boys knew that the required run rate was important, and were actually matching it for most of the innings but unfortunately lost too many wickets and were bundled out for 119.

Both the U/16 and U/12 sides have had fantastic seasons and we would like to congratulate them both on some great results.

The U/15s and U/11s were a different story however, with both teams drawing their semi-finals and advancing due to being the higher placed team.

The U/11's hit 133 from their 50 overs, Joel Davies again the star with 67, while only 22 overs could be bowled with Blacktown 3 for 46. With 25 overs needed for a result, the Manly boys went through.

The U/15s also drew. They hit 206 from their 57 overs on a tough wicket with Nick Osborne hitting 61. They then restricted Hornsby to 4 for 30 from 18.3 overs before the rains came.

So onto Sunday we go. The U/16s are looking to repeat their premiership winning ways from the U/15s last year at Manly Oval, while the U/11s are looking to carry on the great Creak Shield tradition from last year and come away with the prize.

We urge all Manly Warringah cricket supporters to get along to Lionel Watts or Manly Oval and see these players of the future. Good luck to both teams on Sunday.
