Everybody Loves Aiden

Tahs Swing For The Skies
Baz

STANDOUT Manly cricketer Aiden Bariol will represent Australia at the end of the year after helping NSW win the recent under-16 national titles in Darwin.

The St Augustine’s College Year 10 student has long been touted by good judges as something special.

Opening the batting, he hit a half century in a crucial pool game against Queensland and was a key player as the Blues finished the tournament unbeaten.

Yesterday, the 15-year-old told the Manly Daily that hearing his name read out for the junior national squad was the best feeling of his life.

“I wasn’t sure if I had done enough to be picked, I was hopeful,’’ he said.

“I had a feeling we (NSW) would be contenders pre-tournament. We gelled quickly.

“In September we will play in the under-17 national titles in Brisbane before an international series in Bowral.”

One of Aiden’s Blues teammates was Austin Waugh, son of former Test captain Steve Waugh.

Fellow gun Manly junior Jack Edwards also performed well in the Northern Territory and was named as one of four standby players for Bowral. One-time Australian Test batsman Stuart Law will coach the 13-strong squad.
