Inconsistent Manly Has Uphill Battle

MANLY cricket captain Tim Cruickshank says his team has again paid the price for a lack of consistency with Saturday’s costly loss to Sydney at Drummoyne Oval.

After being dismissed for 159, Sydney reached 161 for the loss of six wickets. It is a result that adds pressure on Manly’s race to the finals with two vital games left against Fairfield and Hawkesbury.

“If we win one of those last two we will probably secure a finals berth, if we win both of then we are guaranteed and if we lose both we are a chance of missing out,” Cruikshank said.

“It is a big finish to the season for us and unfortunately it has left us in a bit of a compromised position.”

Cruickshank said when the team was hot they were probably unbeatable.

“We have had a great season but I still think there is bit of a lack of consistency there,” he said.

“And if we are serious about winning the comp we can’t afford to be having these days so regularly.”

Cruickshank said while Manly just didn’t play well enough on Saturday, one positive was another strong performance from bowler Dan Babula, who took 3/37.

“If you look at our batting card we were a bit stop-start and didn’t go on with it,” Cruickshank.
The top scorers were Luke Edgell (pictured) with 38 and Cruickshank with 27.
