58km Goal set for October National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Every day 58 people are diagnosed with Breast cancer.

Let that sink in for a second. It is a statistic that rocks you to the core, and is a statistics that the National Breast Cancer Foundation, along with many other fantastic charities, are aiming to reduce.

As part of our Manly for Manly Community Program, we are pleased to confirm that our Women’s playing group and coaching staff have committed to running or walking 58km throughout the month of October to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and contribute to this reduction.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so it is a fitting time for the Tahs to take aim at this auspicious target.

We are aiming to raise $5,000 as part of the initiative, which will also include a Triple Header fundraiser at Manly Oval on Sunday 12th October. More to come on this Triple Header shortly.

Waratah Club Captains Chelsea McLerie and Emily Hatfield are the primary drivers behind the initiative and are confident of getting to their target.

“Our playing groups are really focused on giving this target a real go this October” said Hatfield and McLerie.

“It an issue that is really close to our hearts, has affected many family’s within out playing group, and something we think we can contribute to”.

“Some of the stats around breast cancer are amazing. 1 in 7 Australian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. 3,300 Australians (including 33 men) will die from breast cancer each year, and 9 Australians still die every day from breast cancer. They are numbers we need to change”.

If you are able to contribute, please do so via our fundraising page at National Breast Cancer Foundation – Manly Womens Cricket

More to come on the 12th October Triple Header shortly.
