After a strong & productive pre season, it was time to get the season underway for 1st Grade & PGs as they each took on Mosman in Round 1 of their T20 competitions.
Men’s 1st Grade:
Foster’s men made the trip to Bill Ball Oval at the foot of the mountains, sent into bat after Mosman won the toss. Brewster (21) made a steady start, but the Tahs struggled to get going for the most part at Mosman built scoring pressure with regular wickets. Boulton (39) with a gutsy effort fighting illness to hold the Tahs innings somewhat together, but it was ultimately a frustrating 20 overs as the Tahs posted 9/103. Toohey struck relatively early, but the Tahs needed everything to go right to get back in the game, and it just wasn’t meant to be. A big 2nd wicket partnership from Mosman taking the game away, late wickets to Hole, & debut 1st Grade wickets to Searle & Kershler only consolation as Mosman passed our total for the loss of four wickets in the 16th over.
Poidevin Gray Shield:
Sunday saw PGs kickoff their season as the Tahs were asked to field first at Allan Border Oval. Mosman off to a flying start, a wicket to Hutchings the only reprieve early as the home side took the game on to be 1/133 & a strong platform set. The Tahs fought well at the back end of the innings, led by a ridiculous spell of bowling from Myles Kapoor, who finished with 6/26 bowling at the death, including 4 final over wickets, and a hat trick from the final three balls. Mosman posting 7/172. The run chase didn’t get off to the best of starts, but Kapoor (48) did his best to keep the Tahs in the game with a strong innings. Regular wickets though meant the game looked to be slipping away, until some absurd hitting from Pryke (32 off 10) including three big bombs, gave the Tahs a glimmer of hope. Ultimately it wasn’t to be, the lower order fight from Pryke & Jenkins (12no) not enough as the Tahs fell 15 runs short.
Upcoming fixtures:
Men’s 2nd Grade to 5th Grade kick start their respective campaigns this weekend as the Tahs take on UNSW in T20 cricket.
M1s continue their Kingsgrove T20 Cup campaign with three fixtures across the weekend, taking on Penrith, Randwick & Fairfield at Manly Oval. While PGs look to bounce back to form hosting Fairfield in another T20 fixture.
