Bertie Foreman wins joint O’Reilly Medal

Bertie Foreman has taken out the O’Reilly Medal for the 2023/24 season.

Foreman has shared the award with Gordon captain and run machine Tym Crawford.

The O’Reilly Medal is awarded to the best player in the Men’s NSW Premier Cricket 1st Grade competition. It is voted on by the umpires on a 3, 2, 1 points basis for each match.

Foreman joined our club this season from Sussex in the UK after previously playing for the England U/19s.

He joins Mason Crane, Mike Gatting, Geoff Boycott and Tony Greig as the only Englishmen to have won the O’Reilly Medal.

It is a testament to the year he has had. 50 wickets at 17.16 is a fantastic haul for an off-spinner in Australia. We know it is usually tough going for off-spinners here, but he has bamboozled opponents on occasions.

A well credentialed batter, Foreman has always showed his ability with the bat with some strong performances from the number 8 position.

The love and passion Bertie has shown for our club both on and off the field in such a short period of time has been infectious. To win this award is an amazing achievement, but it’s not all that surprising for those that know his talent.

Well done Bertie.
