Doug McGrath is our January Westfield Warringah Mall Volunteer of the Month

Doug McGrath receives his volunteer award from Sam Gainsford

The Manly Warringah Waratahs are proud to announce Doug McGrath as the January recipient of the Westfield Warringah Mall Volunteer of the Month award. This award is available to Manly Warringah junior clubs and Manly Warringah Waratahs volunteers and is proudly sponsored by Westfield Warringah Mall.

Doug has been a regular and committed volunteer with the Manly Waratahs for over 12 years. He was part of the Mike Pawley “academy” initiative and has helped many of our players through the pathway from junior to senior cricket. He was 5th grade captain and many of our players have had the very good fortune to be mentored by him. More recently Doug has hung up his playing boots but is still actively involved in coaching and can be seen at training sessions every week.

On receiving his award he spoke of his motivation to help others following a scary experience in Vietnam. Not only does he spend a lot of his time with cricket, but he is also involved in a war veteran’s group. It was truly humbling to hear Doug speak to the playing group about what he does and why he does it.

We are extremely fortunate to have someone like Doug in our midst, and we are very grateful for all that he has done and continues to do for our club.

Doug first met Sam Gainsford when he was a young tacker of 6 years old, so it was fitting that Sam should present the award. Doug received a framed award certificate and a $250 voucher courtesy of our great friends at Westfield Warringah Mall.

Congratulations and thanks for all your years of hard work, Doug!
