Greenies make undefeated start as Tahs go into Christmas break in Club Championship lead

On the back of a brilliant undefeated start from our Green Shield side, the TravelSIM Waratahs go into the Christmas break with a healthy 106 point lead in the coveted Club Championship.

It has been a rollicking start to the season with all teams performing well. The pleasing thing is that there is still plenty of improvement still left in each side and so we are looking forward to a great start to 2015.

Our Green Shield side yesterday gave everyone a great Christmas present with a smash-up of the previously undefeated Northern Districts side. The bowlers all shared the wickets as Manly rolled ND’s for 95 before putting them to the sword with the bat, racing to 96 in the 18th over for the loss of only one wicket. Aiden Bariol was the star with 59* (a couple of pounding cover drives and square drives were the highlights), well supported by skipper Jack Pickering with 19*. This puts our Green Shield side in equal first place (second on quotient) with 20 points after 3 rounds. They are playing top quality cricket but are still looking to improve their game in order to challenge the top teams at the business end of the season.

So with the completion of that game, the first half of the season has come to a close. It has been a first half full of discovery, intrigue and wonder. We have discovered that Jarrod Rawlings and Ryan Farrell are real players of the future and are leading our young brigade like we have not seen for 10 years. We have been intrigued by the quality of our Green Shield squad, their rise through the grade ranks and continued dominance of the junior competitions….. and we have watched in wonder as our first grade side has continued to improve from week to week and sits at the top of the competition.

We currently sit on 676 Club Championship points, followed by Sutherland on 570, Penrith on 565 and Eastern Suburbs, the big improvers of 2014/15, on 561 points. As we have seen many times though, there is plenty of cricket left in the season and we can’t get complacent after the Christmas break, something that the coaches have already identified with the start of January training schedule.

Current standings for each grade are as follows:

1st Grade – 1st – 38 points
2nd Grade – 9th – 18 points
3rd Grade – 5th – 24 points
4th grade – 2nd – 30 points
5th grade – 8th – 18 points
PGs – 7th – 19th points
Green Shield – 2nd – 20 points

The first round after the Christmas break see’s us clash with Fairfield-Liverpool. They are sitting in 17th spot in the Club Championship on 272 points, however they have a couple of extremely talented youngsters in their ranks and always play tough cricket.

So that’s it for 2014. We would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a fantastic New Year. May 2015 bring you all that you wish for and more.

Bleed Blue!!
