It’s in! DA lodged for new Harbord Diggers on historic day

We are pleased to announce that our long term sponsors Harbord Diggers have now lodged their Development Application (DA) to Warringah Council for the proposed redevelopment of the Club, where they are seeking approval for the detailed design of the proposed new precinct.

With all materials lodged on Monday, it was a fitting day to lodge this application, with 4 August 2014 marking the 100th anniversary of the start of World War One, when England declared war on Germany in 1914.

One hundred years later to the day and in an effort to ensure the legacy of these original Diggers lives on in Australia, Harbord Diggers lodged their new Development Application that would ensure the oldest living memorial to the Diggers on the Northern Beaches is rebuilt to last another 100 years.

The proposed redevelopment of the club is the result of more than three years of intensive planning and community consultation and the next step in the redevelopment process following approval of clubs stage one master plan.

With approval gained in September 2013 to develop a new Club, seniors living village, professional childcare facility, community facilities and state-of-the-art fitness and aquatic centre, we are now pleased that Harbord Diggers are now able to request approval for the detailed design of the various buildings.

The proposed design of the new Harbord Diggers precinct is particularly impressive and has been developed by a dedicated team of professionals, who are each considered some of the finest in their industry.

Taking advantage of the site’s panoramic ocean views, the new Harbord Diggers will offer the best in bars, restaurants and cafes, as well as enhanced member services, improved club activities, programs, entertainment, events and function facilities, alongside a state-of-the-art fitness and aquatic centre, seniors living village and long day care childcare facility.

For those who missed the community information and feedback session on 19 July, Harbord Diggers gave members and the community the opportunity to review the model, plans and images of the proposed new precinct at the club. Information is available online at www.newharborddiggers.com.au.

As a past supporter and/or interested member of Harbord Diggers, we are strongly urging you to show your support for these exciting plans by signing their online petition or writing a support letter to Council for these new plans at http://www.newharborddiggers.com.au/support-us/support

We need your support for our innovative design.
