Joel Mason has been around the TravelSIM Manly Warringah Waratahs for as long as many of us can care to remember.
Starting as a youngster in 1994/95, Maso was a wildcard left-hand batsmen and general mischief maker. He progressed through the grades as a teenager, and cemented himself as a mainstay in the middle and lower grades. He never cracked 1st Grade, although he once came on as a substitute fielder and took two great catches, including the prized wicket of Usman Khawaja.
Maso had a total of 234 innings, 4 x 100s, 23 x 50s. His highest score was 150, and he amassed a total 5563 runs at 25.06. He also took 106 catches, although we’d hate to think how many went down at 2nd slip. Surprisingly, his bowling stats are not to be sneezed at either, taking 9 wickets at 29.56, with best figures of 3 for 6.
While Maso has played nearly every year from his debut until the current day (nearly 17 full seasons), it’s the amazing work he does off the field that makes him so special to us. He’s been on the committee for 8 years, while he’s also held roles such as club captain, business manager, sponsorship manager, communications manager – the list goes on.
Maso has been instrumental in setting up all of our social media coverage (which has one of the strongest followings for an amateur sport club in the country), as well as setting up and managing all of our sponsorship and commercial coverage. Maso has also been the brain-child behind the NueroPower Manly for Manly Community Program, an initiative that the whole club is very passionate about, and one that is very important to our local community.
The club as a whole is extremely excited and proud to offer Joel his Life Membership at this Year’s Presentation Night. We look forward to celebrating the night with family, friends, players and supporters.
