M1s miracle win the only result across weekend of torrential rain – Weekend Wrap 17th/18th January 2025

Welcome to another edition of the Weekend Wrap, proudly brought to you by our friends at New Balance | Belgravia Apparel. Visit them at www.belgraviaapparel.com for all your community club and business apparel needs.

A weekend of torrential rain significantly hampered Premier Cricket across Sydney, with M3s, M5s, W3s, W2s & W1s matches all abandoned without a ball bowled. M1s one-day quarter final also got washed out Sunday. M2s & M4s managed some cricket before the storm set in, while M1s had a miracle day out west on Saturday.

Men’s 1st Grade:

Morning rain reduced the fixture to 40 overs per side at Joe Mac, where Tahs skipper Foster won the toss & elected to bowl. A bright start from Evans with an early wicket before the first of many rain delays. Blacktown surged after the resumption with an aggressive 100 run partnership, however, a strong fightback with the ball ensued. Boulton struck first before wickets were shared between Evans & Foster. But it was a late spell from Osbourne that really shifted the momentum, 3 wickets in 4 balls restricting Blacktown to 9/176 from a reduced 21.4 overs. DLS meant the Tahs would require 170 to win from 20, as O.Davies was at his belligerent best early hitting Blacktown’s attack to all parts. Finding valuable support from the skipper (19) in a 76 run stand, but rain kept interrupting at abrupt intervals. A middle order wobble left the game on a knife’s edge, however, Davies continued to produce some seriously brutal hitting on his way to an epic 96 from just 39 balls. Still needing 30 from the final 4 overs, Joseph (24*) & Hole (17*) calmly saw the Tahs to a 5 wicket win with 5 balls to spare, a miraculous victory in the only completed game across M1s on Saturday.

Men’s 2nd Grade:

Starting on time at Manly Oval, skipper Trewartha won the toss & elected to bowl as the Tahs began brightly with Dunnachie taking two wickets in two balls in his opening spell. Another to Wigney had Blacktown 3/39, before the visitors went on the counter-attack as their skipper took the Tahs’ bowlers on with aggression. A 75 run stand making the Tahs work for the 4th wicket, which the Kapoor brothers combined for. Blacktown again on the attack before the storm rolled in & ceased play for the remainder of the fixture with Blacktown 4/156.

Men’s 4th Grade:

Hosting Blacktown at Grahams, Tahs skipper Parkinson also won the toss & elected to bowl, as Jenkins & Seward settled into an economical opening partnership bowling consistently with the new ball. The latter proving particularly effective in a superb 10 overs straight including 2 early breakthroughs. J.Brewster striking shortly after, before the visitors consolidated with an unbeaten 4th wicket partnership of substance. However, in the 43rd over, the rain started fall & just didn’t stop, ending play with Blacktown 3/149.

Upcoming fixtures:

This weekend sees the Men move into two-day mode in a crunch clash against Parramatta, which will prove vital in the club champs race. M1s, M3s & M5s hosting, while M2s & M4s hit the road.

Meanwhile, the W1s & W2s have one-day fixtures, away to Parramatta & home against North Sydney respectively. W3s are away for their T20 as they take on Sydney Uni.

Until next time, up the Tahs!
