Monday News – PGs v Mosman – T20

PGs finished off their season with a big win over Mosman with their 1st grade quality attack (no exceptions LG) running through Mosman and then our in form batsman making short work of the total.

Manly 1/101 (17 0vers) ( M Pugh 69no, A Lowe 23no) beat Mosman 100 ( M Alexander 3/16, D Marshall 2/7, M Edwards 2/26, L Grant 2/27)

Turning up to a glorious day at Manly Oval, the PG’s boys looked to end their campaign with a win over our neighbours from across the spit in ‘Mozman’. On a green deck that looked to have plenty in it, Pughy won the toss and sent the visitors in. Mosman certainly had a tall order dealing with our opening bowlers. Mickey Edwards bowled with great aggression and control, While at the other end, Matty Alexander, enjoyed his new role as the into the wind medium pacer. In his second over, Toes bowled a great inswinger to the opener, trapping him LBW. The next over Falcor bowled a rip snorter of a bouncer to have the other opener caught behind with a regulation catch to Lowie. Mickey celebrated with some X-trodinary moves and Mosman found themselves 2 for not many.

In the last over of his first spell, Matt picked up his second pole with another peach which rapped the batsman on the pads and again had the umpire raising his finger. LG and Nickos, in his last game of PG’s came on after great spells from the openers. The pressure continued to mount from both ends and after a couple of chances had been grassed, Luke had the fourth wicket, caught behind; a great snare by Andrew “Sid” Lowe up to the stumps. After the batsmen began to play some strokes off Luke, hitting two boundaries off the over, Lowie produced one of the finest pieces of keeping you’ll ever see. After a wayward ball, he moved down the leg side at full stretch and whipped of the bails all in an instant to create a wicket out of nothing. It was a freakish effort and emphasised his class with the gloves. LG had his second.

Nick was bowling a fantastic spell from the other end, and as this season has gone hadn’t produced the spoils he has deserved. However, he too found himself among the wickets with a great rock that gave Lowie his 4th dismissal of the match. It was a mammoth effort from “Tickets”McLachlan who bowled 10 straight quality overs as he has all year.

Dylan replaced LG from the other end and got great reward early in his spell with 2 wickets in an over and the Mosman boys struggled to get him away. Final figures of 2-7 off 8 weren’t too shabby for advanced hair studio’s latest endorser. However, it was a late wicket from Matt A. that gave him the figures on this occasion with 3-16. Mosman had crawled to 100 off 40 odd overs. Special mention to Andrew Lowe and his 6 dismissals!! Well done mate.

Tommy Kaye and Pughy opened the batting and built a solid platform at the beginning of our innings with plenty of boundaries being hit from both of the lads. Unfortunately, Tom’s innings came to a close after a ball that nipped of the seam and brought a miss-timed pull shot. A well made 15 or 20.

Lowey joined the skipper at the crease and the fireworks began. In a 10 over span, the two piled on a partnership of 60 or 70. It seemed neither of the boys fancied running between the wickets too much. Mitch had a run of 7 scoring shots that were all fours and Lowie hit 5 boundaries in his 23 not out. The boys dispatched some indifferent bowling to all parts but it was Pughy who really shone today and made an unbeaten 63. The mighty Tahs passed Mosman 1 down after just 17 overs. An absolute drubbing! I think it’s fair to say that Mosman didn’t have a whale of a time at Manly! Thoughts?

A big thank you to all of the boys who were involved in the side this year as well as Gilly, Wrighty and Loz.  All of your time was much appreciated. It’s fair to say we could have gone a lot further this year with some unlucky losses, but I think it’s created some fire in the belly which can be harnessed in 2013! Go Manly!!
