This coming Saturday and Sunday the 20th and 21st December see’s Manly Oval host the NSW Breakers against the Tasmanian Roar.
Women’s cricket has not been seen at Manly Oval over the last 4 years so it is great to see it back again. The NSW Breakers are the dominant force in women’s cricket and have some of the best female cricketers in the world, with players such as Alyssa Healy, Ellyse Peary and skipper Alex Blackwell so there will be some quality cricket.
Saturday will see the Breakers clash with Tasmania in a one day fixture starting at 10am. The Breakers are currently 3 from 3 and are favourites to take out the competition, while Tasmania are winless also after 3 matches. However they always provide tough competition.
The Breakers are looking to break (pardon the pun) the Australian domestic cricket record of 9 premiership victories in a row in this seasons National Women’s Cricket league, which the NSW men’s team currently hold through their winning of the Sheffield Shield for 9 seasons from 1953-54 to 1961-62. The Breakers equalled this record of 9 last season and are looking to break it this season. With their perfect start, they are well on the way.
In-fact the breakers have won 16 of the 18 women’s domestic competitions held since its inception in 1996-97
Sunday will see the Breakers tackle Tasmania in a T20 match, again starting at 10am. The Breakers have won 5 from 6 domestic T20 matches so far this season and are in 3rd place, one place in front of the Tasmanian’s.
It would be great to see a good crowd down at Manly Oval for both games, so get involved and be part of a great weekend of cricket.
