Tah Talk with Joel Foster is back for another jam-packed edition. This week we take a look at the Steph Hughes match winning innings, Matt Brewster and his continued growth, and the upcoming golf day.
A big thank you once again to Scott MacNeill and the team at Gibson MacNeill Lawyers for their partnership with this season. If you have any legal needs, no matter the size, visit them at www.gibsonmacneill.com.au
Hughes match-winning innings
When sides grind out wins at the last minute with all players pitching in, it’s always a great team feeling.
However, there is nothing like seeing a match winning innings from an individual player.
That’s exactly what we saw from Stephanie Hughes in W2s last week. Chasing a tricking 121 off only 21 overs, Steph was the backbone of the innings, striking her 5th half-century for the club.
Her 68 came off only 58 balls with 7 boundaries.
Our Women’s season may not be going to planned, but these are the type of performances that gets the playing group moving forward and inspires others.
I’m especially happy for Steph who has been a big part of our playing group almost from the outside of our Women’s program.
Hoping to see a few more like it over the find rounds of the season across both the Women and Men.
Beautiful Brewster
One of the great benefits of being a Men’s 1st Grade Captain is the growth you see in your players.
We have had a few of those this season. Roop Dhillon, Andrew Boulton and Julian Osbourne to name a few.
But I’ve probably been most impressed with the improvement of Matt Brewster.
The man known as “Brewy” grew up as a 50kg wringing-wet wicket-keeper. As a youngster in the juniors, it’s fair to say he did not have a lot of power with the bat, and was never considered a superstar coming through the junior ranks.
Nothing could be further from the truth now. From scoring run a ball 1st Grade 100s to having the confidence to hit the first ball of our innings last week for 6, Matt is now an accomplished first grade opening batter.
He has had a tough time of it with injury over the last few years after breaking his ankle, but he came into this season fully fit and is reaping the benefits of hard work.
Still only 26, he is the type of unselfish player we can build not only our team, but also our club, around over the next 10 years.
We will be looking for a strong back-end of the season from “Brewy” at the top of the order.
Golf Day is good day
Our golf day is coming up next week and it is always a cracking day.
Long Reef is the destination once again and it promises to deliver once again.
However the numbers are really tight and I believe we are only 2 groups from putting the “Sold Out” sign up.
I can promise you that it is a day you won’t want to miss out on. I also heard a rumour their may be a high ranking Australian cricketer speaking, schedule permitted.
