Tah Talk with Joel Foster – It all comes down to this

Tah Talk with Joel Foster is back again for your weekly perusing pleasure. This week we take a look at the last round and our path to the Club Championships, Adam Gummer and his tireless work, and our Manly for Manly community program in action.

A big thank you once again to Scott MacNeill and the team at Gibson MacNeill Lawyers for their partnership with this season. If you have any legal needs, no matter the size, visit them at www.gibsonmacneill.com.au

It all comes down to this

Our Men’s Grades have it all to play for this coming last round of the regular season. The Club Championship is on the line.

The Club Championship is an award that we hold deep in our hearts. Since the 1999/2000 season, Manly have won the Men’s Club Champions 8 times in 26 years.

That is almost a Club Championship every 3 years. In a 20 Club Competition, it’s a great stat.

But it won’t be easy, with this seasons competition as close as ever.

St George sit 17 points above us in 1st place on the CC table. Then we have Parramatta sitting only 4 point behind us in 3rd position.

Wouldn’t you know it, we are playing St George in the upcoming last round. They are a great club and are always a challenge to come up against.

To let you know who the CC table works. The higher the grade, the more point you receive. So all 1st Grade points are multiplied by 6. All 2nd Grade points are times by 5, 3rd Grade by 4, 4th Grade by 3, and 5th Grade by 2.

So with 1st innings worth 6 points, a 1st Grade 1st innings win is worth 36 points, a 2nd Grade win worth 30 points, and so on.

No matter the result, it’s been an amazing season so far. Head Coach Roy Vumbaca should be extremely proud of both his efforts and the efforts of his team. But enough of that.

Let’s go win this thing.

Gummer the Golfer

Last Friday 20th February was the annual Manly Cricket Golf Day, with another sold out event.

It is always a fantastic day and one that I was able to participate in.

We have a huge number of volunteers here at Manly, and I just wanted to call out the amazing work of Adam Gummer in organising the event.

Adam is back involved at Manly this season after returning from overseas, and despite some pressure, the 4th Grade Premiership winning Captain has not been needed to fill in on the field.

But his contribution to our Club off the field has been telling. Our Events Manager, the man known as “Gumms” does Golf Days in his sleep.

Ably helped by another great man and former premiership winning captain Andrew Jamieson, the day went off perfectly.

We would also like to thank the people at Long Reef for their great hospitality. The course holds a special place to Manly Cricket as a result of the amount of current and ex-players that play there.

But days like last Friday don’t work unless someone own’s it.

It’s people like Adam that make clubs like us tick, and we ticked perfectly last Friday

Junior coaching blitz

Great to see a few of our Women’s and Men’s players make their visit to their aligned Junior Club over the last few weeks.

It is all part of our Manly for Manly community program. Each player is assigned one of the 210 local junior clubs, and they go along to complete a coaching session.

This session could be either an individual team, or the whole club at one time.

It is a great way to get our club out in the community.

It is also a great way to encourage the future local stars to continue their cricket journey. Ultimately they are our future, so we want to be investing in theirs.

Keep an eye our for more visit over the coming weeks.
