Tah Talk with Joel Foster – Jack goes all the way

Welcome to the this week’s edition of Tah Talk with Joel Foster for 2026. This week we take a look at Jack Edward’s selection for Australia, the upcoming T20 charity match on Australia Day, and the weekends wet and wild results.

A big thank you once again to Scott MacNeill and the team at Gibson MacNeill Lawyers for their partnership with this season. If you have any legal needs, no matter the size, visit them at www.gibsonmacneill.com.au

Jack goes all the way

A local Manly player has been picked for Australia.

It’s not often this has been said in our history, but for the first time since Jackson Bird was picked in the Boxing Day test against Sri Lanka in 2012, we can say it again.

Jack Edwards, a local product from Beacon Hill Junior Cricket Club, has been picked for the Australian T20 tour to Pakistan.

Last week we spoke about the impact another local product, Joel Davies, has had on the Big Bash this year. Jack’s impact has arguably been bigger.

Strike rate of 182.54 with the bat, and in the top 10, and 3rd in the league with 17 wickets. They are mind blowing stats and show how far he has come as an all-rounder.

Now he is going to be playing for his country. He is only in the touring squad, but mark my words, he will play.

It’s thrilling for the entire club seeing Jack prosper like he is. There was no doubt some tough times when he was thrown into professional cricket at the age of 18, but he has come out the other side and he is thriving.

Sea Eagles Australia Day Charity Match

This coming Monday the club, in conjunction with the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, will be holding a charity T20 match at Manly Oval.

The match will be used to help raise funds for the The Burdekin Association, a proud charity partner of both us and the Sea Eagles.

It promises to be a top shelf day. Plenty of Manly Sea Eagles royalty will be coming to play, headlined by Steve Menzies, Cliff Lyons, Brett Stewart and Kieran Foran.

Of course, you will also get to see your favourite Waratahs in action.

This is all part of our partnership with the Sea Eagles. I think it is fantastic seeing 2 organisations like ours come together.

You have seen us talk many times about the Manly Warringah badge. It’s a name not bestowed on too many clubs, but we both wear it with honour.

So come down for a couple of cold refreshments this coming Monday, the 26th of January. Australia Day.

There’s no better place to be than Manly Oval. Game start 2.30pm.

Winning on a wet weekend

Wet Saturday’s can be the most frustrating time to play cricket. Always coming on and off the field, potentially going to a 6.30pm finish. There are just so many unknowns.

Well, it was all worth it on Saturday when we came up with victory in the closing stages of the day against a gallant Blacktown side.

You always need some luck in any sport, but you also need to take the chances that are presented to you, and that is the way I look at Saturday. We took our chance.

It helps having Ollie in blistering form. Some of his 6s over the Joe McAleer fence had to be seen to be believed. It was like he was trying to hit them back to Manly.

With no other matches getting a result in 1st Grade, and only one other game in all of Men’s and Women’s Premier Cricket, it puts us back to the top of the ladder with a 3-point gap to Easts and St George in equal 2nd place.

But we need to be on our toes in the closing rounds, both as a team and as a Men’s Playing Group. We take on Parramatta, Bankstown, Randwick-Petersham and St George, all sitting in the top half of the ladder.

It’s time to strap in and show what we are made of.
