Talk Talk with Joel Foster – Darlington is in the game

Welcome to another edition of Tah Talk with Joel Foster. This week Joel shares an update on Hannah Darlington, highlights the positives from M1’s weekend draw, and takes a look at the Movember moustaches making the rounds at the club

A big thank you to Scott MacNeill and the team at Gibson MacNeill Lawyers for their new partnership with this season. If you have any legal needs big or small, visit them at www.gibsonmacneill.com.au

Darlington is in the game

With the WBBL now underway, it is great to see some of the great young talent in Women’s cricket on center stage.

However, one of the biggest disappointments of the competition is Hannah Darlington’s injury forced absence.

Hannah has played 73 WBBL games for the Sydney Thunder, so she is now considered a veteran at the young age of 23.

So it was a huge shock to everyone when she was ruled out for the entire WBBL season, and potentially the entire season with NSW as well.

For one the most motivated and gifted young fast-bowlers, it must have been gut wrenching.

However, Hannah is not the kind of person to stand still. On-top of doing everything in her power to get back on the park, she has now become the new CEO – Chief Everything Officer – of the Sydney Thunder.

I am not entirely sure what that entails, but I am assured it is a formal role, and it sounds brilliant.

But more so, she is putting a large amount of her focus onto her podcast, “She’s in the game”.

Teaming up with Maitland Brown, the show is now 82 episodes deep and doing amazing things for cricket and Women’s sport in general.

Make sure you look it up and give it a Follow.

1st Grade to stay their course

Despite a draw in our last round against Sydney, there were plenty of positive to take out of the match.

The first one was the positive way we played the game. At 4 for 200 after a rain delay, we were given an equation of chasing 115 runs off the final 13 overs for victory.

An improbable target, but we decided to give it a crack. We lost a few wickets straight away which meant we needed to reign it back in, but the intent was there.

Ahillen Beadle was again magnificent, as was his fellow opener, Matt Brewster. Matt has really made a difference so far this year and I can see a big score for him just around the corner.

The deck was tough going for all our bowlers, but all the quicks toiled hard. No one is shirking their responsibility, and they gave ourselves a shot at winning.

Roop Dhillon was also fantastic, taking his first 5 wicket haul in first grade.

This weekend we take on Northern Districts in a ding-ding battle across the Men’s grades.

Make sure you back us in.

Mo for Movember

The club does plenty of great work off the field, but the one I like the most must be Movember.

It is brilliant to see so many boys get involved, raising good money for Men’s health, and having a huge amount of fun at the same time.

Some of the terrible, terrible attempts at growing a moustache are there for us all the see at training, but there are some quality ones as well.

Nathan Pryke with his Gomez Adams re-make is just brilliant. It’s good banter.

But the real part we play here is raining money. We are aiming to go past last year’s $14,200 total, and every little cent helps.
