Edwards Brothers sign for Sixers in BBL/07

Local brothers Mickey and Jack Edwards are the latest recruits for the Sydney Sixers, signing up for the Big Bash Club for the BBL/07 season.

While the nation is currently griped with Ashes fever, the Big Bash is only just around the corner and we are looking forward to seeing the Edwards boys representing the Tahs on the biggest stage throughout the summer.

For Mickey it is a return to where he first got his break a couple of years ago before injury curtailed his last few seasons. Mickey has always shown his pace, height and accuracy are important pieces in the T20 puzzle, so it wasn’t surprising that the Sydney Sixers have come knocking once again.

Mickey has been out with injury over the last few weeks due to a stress fracture found in his shins, but is close to full fitness again and should be raring to go once the Big Bash comes around.

In Jack’s case, it’s about the future. Still not quite 18 years old and having only just finished his HSC, Jack has signed up as a Development Rookie, meaning he will be in and around the squad for the entire BBL campaign.

Jack is seen as a top order batsmen with the Sixers at the moment, with his fancied medium pacers adding another bow to his repertoire. He has been in good form for the TravelSIM Waratahs as well, hitting a match winning 71 off 46 deliveries in our most recent round of the Kingsgrove Sports Twenty20 Cup.

It’s great to have the 2 local boys involved with the Sixers this year, and shows the pathway to elite cricket is alive and well on the Northern Beaches.

While both Mickey and Jack will be away from the Tahs for a few rounds during the BBL before and after Christmas, we are very proud of them both and hope they both learn a lot and manage to get some game time.
