Wet Weather Halts Tahs – Weekend Wrap 8th/9th February 2020

A heavy downpour of rain reaced havoc in Sydney over the weekend, ultimately leading to a wet and washed out weekend for most games for the Tahs. Day 2 of the men’s Round 12 fixture against Fairfield Liverpool led to 4/5 games being abandoned before a ball was bowled on Day 2, with Second Grade the only grade to get onto the park. However the constant down fall of rain halted the Tahs chase and ultimately abandoned the game 50 runs short of the target. Our women’s teams were also impacted by the rain, with all games being abandoned over the weekend. Finally, our men’s First Grade side were bundled out of the finals of the Limited Overs Competition after their game was also abandoned with Sydney advancing due to being the higher placed team.

Onwards and upwards to next weekend where our men take on Sydney in a two-day fixture with First Grade, Third Grade and Fifth Grade away, whilst Second Grade and Fourth Grade look to cement points on home field terriotry. Our girls are in action as well with Second Grade and Brewer Shield playing away to Sydney, Third Grade T20 travel to Raby to face Campbelltown-Camden, whilst finally our U15’s host Universities at Grahams on Sunday.

Go the Tahs!

First Grade

Manly drew Fairfield-Liverpool 4/95 (Hadley 2/5, J. Edwards 2/21)

No play due to rain.

Second Grade

Manly 4/134 (M. Webber 54) drew Fairfield-Liverpool 10/178

The boys rocked up to a surprisingly dry Manly Oval given the 150mm of rain Friday. A few failed Pepsi challenges saw the likes of Jacob O’Sullivan & Matty Brewster struggle early doors (Waratah TV). After a half hour delay the boys went about our 100 run chase with positive intent. This intent saw the scoreboard move quickly however Max (53) fell the ball after bringing up his milestone in one of the rarer overs of the season. 6, W, 2, 4, 4, W. Said overs saw both left handers dismissed. 4-100, the remainder of the chase was left up to Brewster, The Deep & Co. The boys helped us recover after a few quick wickets before rain haltered our pursuit. 4-134 we were left stranded after numerous hours of toiling trying to get back on.

Serious effort from our playing group and volunteers, the spirit of our club was on full display and despite the rain winning the match, the morale of the boys remains high heading into our final 3 matches of the season.
