Waratahs win 2023/24 Women’s Club Championship

The Mounties Manly Warringah Waratahs are the 2023/24 Women’s Club Champions.

The title was secured with W3s victory over Sydney on Saturday. Victories in the final round game by W1s and W2s on Sunday made the weekend even sweeter.

It is an amazing achievement. After a brief 2-year foray into Women’s Cricket in the early 1980s, in 2014 we set our sights on building a successful and sustainable Women’s program.

Underpinning this was having a solid pathway program, which was already underway via the Junior Association. This culminated in the entry of a Brewer Shield (U/18s) team in 2017/18.

Since then, we have slowly built the program to include a Third Grade side, then a Second Grade side, and finally a 1st Grade side in 2021/22.

It has taken us 7 years since the reincarnation of our Women’s program to win our first Club Championship.

Club President Andrew Fraser could not hide his excitement.

“This is such a wonderful achievement winning our first club championship in only the 7th year of our women’s program”said Fraser.

“It’s a terrific reward for all our coaches, managers, volunteers and of course the entire playing group.”

“Let’s now hope the men can emulate the feat in 2 weekends time”

Our volunteers and coaching staff should be congratulated. They are superbly led by our Women’s head coach Duncan Kerr.

Duncan said it was a group effort and something everyone should be proud of.

“I am so incredibly proud of this amazing group of people. From the players the coaches and all involved what an incredible achievement in the history of this great club.”

“This was the number 1 goal we set for this season. Everyone has played a part . As we have said all year ‘all in 100%””.

The biggest congratulations should go to all the girls. Their commitment to themselves, their teams mates and the club has been exemplary for the last few seasons. It is no surprise that this Club Championship has come about.

Congrats to everyone. Winning a Club Champs means all grades have done well, and it means you are in the hunt for more silverware at the business end of the season.

Bring on the next month of finals cricket.
