Welcome to another edition of Tah Talk with Joel Foster. This week we look at M1s making the T20 Semi Finals for the first time in 10 years, Keira Terrey continuing her amazing form, and some fantastic results from our Junior Reps.
A big thank you to Scott MacNeill and the team at Gibson MacNeill Lawyers for their new partnership with this season. If you have any legal needs big or small, visit them at www.gibsonmacneill.com.au
Tahs return to Semi-Finals
Last weekend saw the return of the Men’s first Grade side to the Kingsgrove T20 Finals for quite some time.
In fact, it was way back in 2019/20 that we last played finals T20 cricket, and we need to go back to 2015/16 since we played Semi Final T20 cricket.
But that has all changed now with back-to-back elimination final wins, and a spot in next Sunday’s T20 Semi-Final. I could not be any prouder of our playing group.
While our big players stood up when it counted, for me it was the guys who have not played a large amount of 1st Grade cricket who really stood out.
Roop Dhillon was one of those. He was simply outstanding. His figures probably don’t reflect how well he bowled in both matches, and he got crucial wickets at crucial stages.
The other is Julina Osbourne. We all know his talent having just represented Australian U19s in the test series against India, but 1st Grade, and especially T20 cricket, can be a complex beast.
But Jules was up to the task, and his contribution cannot be underestimated.
We are taking on perennial T20 power-house Randwick-Petersham at Coogee Oval on Sunday at 2.30pm. We would love to see as many Waratah supporters there as possible.
Terrific Terrey
Over the last few years I have heard a fair bit about some of the young cricketers coming through both the Men’s and Women’s Pathway.
Kiera Terrey is one I have kept an eye on.
Injury ruined her cricket a few years ago, but she trained herself to a stand-still to ensure she came back better than ever.
The results over the last 2 years speak volumes for her hard work. She broke the Brewer Shield run-scoring record last year, and continued her form on the weekend in Brewer Shield’s Round 1 victory.
Her 61 runs off 42 balls was the difference between the 2 sides, and while I wasn’t there to see her bat, by all reports she was a class above anyone else in the match.
She then doubled her efforts by playing in the 2nd Grade match a few hours later, and with her bowling something she has added to her bow, she delivered the super-over to help get us the victory.
I love seeing hard work pay off and that is what we are seeing.
Kiera Terrey. Remember the name.
Reps start on positive note
I mentioned last week that our Junior Reps were starting their campaign over the weekend.
It was a successful start with 4 from 7 victories, including the top 4 age groups.
A couple of highlights included half centuries from Archie Wragg (92) in Weblin Shield U15s, as well as Jack Wylie (62) and Leo Ellis (60*) in Creak Shield U13s Div2.
Ekam Dhillon, brother of our own Roop, hit 65* in Creak Shield U13 Div1, while Thomas Turner, who is a member of the famous Manly Cricket Turner clan, hit 51 in U12 Div1 Cawsey Shield.
But the highlight was without doubt the 122 off 151 balls to skipper George Hansen in the U14 Div1 Moore Shield side.
He hit 16 boundaries after coming to the crease at 2 for 7, and lead his side to a big victory.
George won’t be too far away from Green Shield in the coming seasons if he keeps up these kind of numbers.
Go Manly!
