Tah Talk with Joel Foster is back again for your weekly perusing pleasure. This week we look at Brewers start to our finals campaign, we take another look at our coaching blitz, and the season being done for W1s and W2s.
A big thank you once again to Scott MacNeill and the team at Gibson MacNeill Lawyers for their partnership with this season. If you have any legal needs, no matter the size, visit them at www.gibsonmacneill.com.au
Brewers get finals heart pumping
This time of year can be a nerve racking one.
As teams move into finals, one ball, one shot, one catch can mean the difference between moving on to a shot premiership glory or dusting off the footy boots.
It can be gut wrenching stuff. Players, club members, parents, officials. No one is immune.
We got our first taste of it on Sunday with Brewer Shield’s impressive, come from behind win against Sydney University in the elimination final.
I looked at the score at about 10:20am on Sunday and saw that we were 3 for 6. Wasn’t the start to my Sunday morning that I was looking for.
But the girls fought hard with the bat thanks to Ebony Davies and Grace Pike and showed what they can do with the ball. A 20-run victory followed.
The day took its toll on us all. Not just from the match itself, but also from showing us what we have coming up on both the Women’s and Men’s side over the next couple of week.
It’s heart pumping stuff that I am looking forward to.
Junior coaching blitz gets going
As mentioned last week, one of the great programs run by our club is the Manly for Manly community program.
The name actually comes from a clear idea. The Manly Warringah Club for the Manly Warringah Community.
It’s a perfect way to describe what our club is all about
There has been no better indication of this over the last few weeks than the visits being paid to junior boys and girls by our playing group.
They go to training sessions, provide some tips, have a good chat to the youngsters, and generally have a great afternoon.
Whether it’s Darcey Whiteley visiting Collaroy, Josh Cooper at Wakehurst, or Axel Karlson-Lacey at Forest, it’s been amazing to see and hear
It is something that has gone on for over 10 years and is something that I really think makes a difference.
Our juniors are our future, and we need to invest in that.
It’s also great to remind our players that they were once 10 years olds running around the cricket Oval with a dream.
If you see one of our players at your child’s training session, make sure you say hello.
Season done for W1s and W2s
Well done to our W1s and W2s teams on a well fought season.
Last week spelled the end of their campaigns, both coming in 8th place.
While there is no doubt it was not the campaign we were after, the experience gained by players such as Kaya unter, Darcey Whiteley and Arabella Handley will be invaluable.
So far our Women’s program has had a few ups and downs since it’s inception, but what we are building means we will be a consistent power house year after year very soon.
I have seen the people involved, and effort going in, and the passion from the playing group.
Add to this a great bunch of young players from Brewer Shield, and the future is bright.
The girls now move on to supporting Brewer Shield and W3s in their finals campaigns.
