Gordon Currie retires as 2nd Grade Scorer

Long term Men’s 2nd Grade scorer and Life Member Gordon Currie has scored his last game for the Waratahs.

Gordon has decided to lower the pencil effective immediately. It brings to a close an incredible contribution to our club across more than 30 years.

Affectionately known as “Gordy”, he was given the ultimate accolade when voted in as a Life Member in 2022.

Gordy started at the club in 1991 when his son Craig first played Green Shield and then Premier Cricket for Manly.

He was a Board member for 10 years, holding the positions of of Assistant Secretary for 6 years between 1993 and 1999, and Honorary Treasurer for 4 years between 2001 and 2005.

Following his roles with the Board, Gordy took over the scoring duties for 2nd Grade in 2007. He has been a part of 2 Premiership, many Grand Finals, and become a life-long friend to many.

Congratulations to Gordy from everyone at Manly Cricket on a great career. We look forward to seeing you down at Manly Oval soon.

What this does mean is that we are on the lookout for a 2nd Grade scorer. It’s a position that now requires scoring to be done on-line, and would be perfect for anyone with a bit of IT knowledge, a love of statistics and, of course, a passion for the game of cricket. We will formerly advertise this shortly, but any initial enquiries please contact Steve Beatty at honsec@manlycricket.com.
