Green Shield excited to take on the Stags in Round 1

Green Shield skipper Ollie Davies
This coming Thursday see’s the TravelSIM Manly Warringah Waratahs Green Shield side take on Gordon in Round 1 action of the 2016/17 competition.

This year’s squad is a mix between U/15 and U/16 players, and our Round 1 team is much the same, with six U/15 and six U/16 making up the final 12.

Opening the batting is U/15 hard hitter Jarryd Colyer along with experienced Green Shield Campaigner Harry Kantor-Smith. Jarrod had a fantastic Manly Warringah Junior Representative season, scoring 249 runs including 2 centuries and was the pick of the U/15 batsmen, while Kantor-Smith was a consistent presence for the U/16s this year, scoring 149 runs with a top score of 59 across 5 matches.

At number 3 is skipper Ollie Davies, one of the best young batsmen in the country. Ollie will be the mainstay of the batting line-up and will look lead the team with the willow.

At number 4 is the athletic Kyle Martin, backing up for his second season of Green Shield and a jack-in-the box waiting to explode. Along with Ollie, Kyle will form the backbone of the batting line-up.

At number 5 is young gun Jake Osborne while the top 6 is rounded out by Jordan Brewster.

All-rounder Luca Franks is coming in at number 7, in top form for our brothers at Warringah, averaging almost 50 across 3rd and 4th grade so far this year and in fine form.

Then come our bowlers, although we could consider them all genuine all-rounders, such is the length of the batting.

Aidan Bennett is a genuine star of the future and will swing games with both ball and at number 8 with the bat. A quick bowler of immense talent, we are very excited with what Aidan will bring to Greenies this year.

At number 9 will be wicket keeper Brynn Mendel, already added to the 5th grade squad this year. Brynn had a strong rep season with the bat with a top score of 74, and is a pure gloveman.

At number 10 and 11 are spinners Ned Barnet and Will Greenland. Will bowls genuine ripping leggies while Ned is an off-spinner who topped the wickets across all Manly Warringah representative teams this year.

At number 12 is the talented Ben Watts. Ben has been part of all the NSW junior rep teams coming through the age groups and recently made his 5th grade debut. He has amazing control for a young left arm spinner and will be one of the strike weapons Ollie will have at his disposal.

All 12 players are available to bowl as per Green Shield over the last 10 years.

We are coming up against a Gordon side who are a little unknown as is always the case with Green Shield. There are always ebbs and flows from year to year depending who is coming through the junior ranks in each area. Players flow between various clubs and areas for Green Shield so it is always hard to ascertain the strength of each side before the teams hit the field for round 1.

However Gordon have been there or thereabouts in terms of the Green Shield Quarter Finals over the last few years and will no doubt be tough opposition for our boys.

The matches starts at 10am at Killara Oval on Thursday 15th December.

Our full team is:

1. Jarod Colyer
2. Harry Kantor-Smith
3. Oliver Davies (captain)
4. Kyle Martin
5. Jake Osborne
6. Jordan Brewster
7. Luca Franks
8. Aidan Bennett
