Manly Warringah Waratahs Charity Partner Happy Days, has provided an update on how their students are tracking, and have requested your assistance to help achieving their vision.
Happy Days vision is to provide educational opportunities to children living in extremely impoverished circumstances as a way of obtaining a “passport out of poverty” or the chance to live a life they could never have imagined possible.
The recent opening of the Happy Days Cambodian Village English Education Centre built at a cost of nearly $30,000 further drives this vision.
21 different English classes are conducted each week in 2 ultra modern classrooms with electricity and wifi.
Since opening a few weeks ago, 200 students now attend after school tutorials in written and spoken English 7 days a week.
Sunday morning beginners English classes start at 7 am with Happy Days scholarship sponsored university students Sony Son and Tong Pach as teachers.
Happy Days are always uplifted and inspired by the level of engagement, commitment and excitement that these students show with their studies. Like year 11 student Sina pictured, they work hard and for long hours and their work is always meticulous.
Help Wanted
There are several ways you can help support the students at Happy Days.
1. Volunteer to teach English alongside 5 of our sponsored university scholarship students. Scholarship students have returned to teach English to our 200 students at the Happy Days education centre near the marvellous ancient temple city of Angkor Wat.
2. Donate your used working laptop or iPad so that Happy Days can start computer classes for their students. Wifi has finally arrived in the village!
3. Change a life by helping fund the Happy Days university scholarship program, now totalling 16 students.
The students would greatly appreciate being able to enhance their learning with your pre-loved working devices. They can be dropped into any branch of Mike Pawleys.
