Joel Foster appointed Men’s 1st Grade Captain for 2025/26 Season

The Mounties Manly Warringah Waratahs are proud to announce Joel Foster as the Men’s 1st Grade Captain for the 2025/26 NSW Premier Cricket season.

Joel steps into the role following the leadership of long-time skipper Jay Lenton, who recently stepped down after being appointed as an assistant coach with the NSW Blues.

A natural leader and fierce competitor, Joel’s appointment signals the beginning of a new chapter for the Waratahs’ top grade — one grounded in continuity, connection, and a shared hunger for success.

While this marks Joel’s first season as 1st Grade captain, he is no stranger to leadership. He already commands the respect of his teammates through his performances, professionalism, and character, and will work closely with the coaching staff across pre-season to implement his leadership style.

Reflecting on the appointment, Joel said he’s “incredibly honoured to be given the opportunity to lead a club as proud and successful as Manly,” adding:

“This place means a lot to me, and I want to make sure we build something that reflects the values of the group — playing hard, playing for each other, and enjoying what we do.”

One of Joel’s main priorities is making sure the side is enjoying their cricket. He sees enjoyment not just as a by-product of success, but as a key driver of it:

“When the boys are enjoying their cricket and each other’s company, that’s when we play our best. Success flows from connection, and that’ll be right at the centre of everything we do.”

In accepting the role Joel also acknowledged the great legacy left by his predecessor Jay:

“I want to thank Jay for his incredible leadership over the past seven seasons. He’s someone I’ve always looked up to, and having him around the group — even without the ‘C’ next to his name — is a huge asset. He’s definitely someone I’ll be turning to for guidance as I find my own feet in the role.”

The club is excited about the direction Joel will take the side and confident his leadership will continue to drive high standards on and off the field. With a strong core of players and a deep support network behind him, Joel is well placed to build on the Waratahs’ recent success and lead 1st Grade into a bold new era.

Congratulations Foz and good luck for the upcoming season.
