Manly Warringah Waratah (Kamilaroi woman) has been named as the Player of the match at the Australian Indigenous Women’s T20 fixture.
It was a game played against an MCC XI at the famous MCG as part of a 5 day training camp of players from last years National Indigenous Cricket Championships. It’s part of the build up to this seasons edition in February 2024, which Lara is sure to be part of.
Lara was chosen as part of 9 NSW Men’s and Women’s Players to the camp in Melbourne, and is part of Cricket Australia’s ongoing commitment to make our game as inclusive as possible, and make sure Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians connect through the game of cricket.
After the MCG XI hit 7 for 108, Graham anchored the Indigenous XI run chase with 37 off 46 balls. However her run out in attempting a 2nd run halted her sides momentum, and they lost by 5 runs.
Graham said that playin at the MCG was a great experience.
“It was pretty surreal to be honest. Walking out there with the girls, you say to yourself ‘wow and I actually out here’.”
“It was great playing against the MCG XI and I couldn’t have asked for a better day to be honest.”
“I think it’s so important to give opportunities to everyone, and I think Cricket Australia is doing a great job at doing that. The more we can put the game out their for the Indigenous people, the better.”
Congrats Lara on the fantastic experience and we look forward to how she performs at the February 2024 Championships.
