We are pleased to report that the TravelSIM Waratahs have qualified for this Sunday’s 1st grade one day Grand Final with a fantastic win over Eastern Suburbs on Sunday at Manly Oval.
The Manly Oval wicket was looking a treat so it was a little surprising that Easts won the toss and sent us in to bat. Justin Cox got out early, with Crosthwaite and Beadle also not kicking on with 12 each. Cameron Merchant and Jay Lenton batted superbly however with 67 and 72 respectively. Taylor Beatty also batted superbly with 37 off 42 balls, and we finished on 7 for 230 after 50 overs.
It was a measured innings on a surprisingly slow Manly Oval outfield, with the boys confident that it was enough.
And enough it proved to be. James Munting showed his class with an inspired opening spell, reducing Easts to 3 for 15 and then 4 for 24. Jimmy has struggled with injury throughout the year and hasn’t bowled his best, but on this day he was on song. He ended up taking 4 for 11 off 7 overs.
The Dolphins never recovered, with Mickey Edwards (1 for 13 off 5) bowling some serious heat and Nic Bills (2 for 16 off 5) again showing his class. They ended up on 8 for 74 when the rain set in, and the Waratahs won on the Duckworth-Lewis method.
The Waratahs are taking on top placed Bankstown at Glen McGrath Oval at Caringbah next Sunday 8th March. Bankstown Oval is unavailable due to a Sheffield Shield game.
We urge all supporters to get to Glen McGrath Oval to support the boys and cheer them on in bringing back the One Day cup to the Northern Beaches once again.
Go Manly!
