Welcome to another edition of Tah Talk with Joel Foster. This week we look at where we’re sitting in club champs, Willa’s historic debut in the Womens A-League, and M1s long day on Sunday to get the win.
A big thank you to Scott MacNeill and the team at Gibson MacNeill Lawyers for their new partnership with this season. If you have any legal needs big or small, visit them at www.gibsonmacneill.com.au
Club Champs on a roll
One of the things the Club places a huge emphasis on each season is the Club Championship across both Women and Men.
It is a great indicator of the strength of your club. A strong Club Championship result means that all your teams are most likely in contention for Premierships.
We won our 1st Women’s Club Championship 2 season ago, while the Men have an amazing recent history.
We have won this prestigious prize 8 times in the last 26 years, which in a 20-club competition is an amazing result.
Earlier today the latest Club Champs ladder dropped, and the Waratahs are sitting top of the Men and 2nd in the Women.
While there is a long time to go in the season, and no one is thinking about a 2nd victory for the Women and 9th victory for the Men just yet, it’s a great indication that we are on the right track and are in for a successful season.
Willa goes wild
I know there will be wider communication about this from the club shortly, but I need to acknowledge the effort of our Brewer Shield wicket-keeper Willa Pearson in becoming the youngest ever player in the Women’s A-League last weekend.
At 14 years and 312 days, she overtook Ischia Booking from the Western Sydney Wanders when she made her debut for Sydney FC on Saturday.
She helped her side to a 2-2 draw against Melbourne City.
I spoke about Willa and Annabelle Croll last week, but this is a whole other level.
But the best part was that she was back playing with our Brewer Shield side on Sunday, leading the side behind the stumps during their victory over the Southern Swans.
In speaking the various people around the club, it is clear that she is kind, respectful, hard-working and comes from a great family.
In an age where sports specialty at a young age has become the norm, let’s hope she can continue her 2 sporting loves for a long time to come.
Day in the dirt
Another great victory for the 1st Grade boys on Saturday and Sunday last weekend.
A full 2-day match across the weekend is a tough proposition. We all have to go back to work on the Monday morning, and there are always some sore bodies.
But to see how ecstatic our team was when we got the final wicket on Sunday, only a few overs before the end, shows how much the team enjoyed the fight.
A day in the dirt like that can really galvanize a team.
Our bowlers were magnificent. Tom Kaye hit a dime every ball, Roop Dhillon was as consistent as I have seen him, and Lewis Evans brought that spark that each bowling group needs.
With Julian Osbourne playing his part perfectly, and Andrew Boulton contributing, the bowling group really brought us home.
We move onto Sydney this weekend. They have had a few lean years but are extra dangerous at the moment, and with players like Matt Rodgers and Nathan Doyle they have plenty of quality about them.
If we enjoy our day in the dirt again, we will be tough to beat.
