Tahs make history as 4 players named to compete in Australian U/17 Championships

The TravelSIM Waratahs have made history with a record 4 players named to take part in the upcoming Australian U/17 Cricket Championships.

Isaiah Vumbaca, Aiden Bariol and Jack Edwards were all named in the NSW Metro 13 man squad after the recent NSW U/17 state challenge, while Ollie Davies was already named as part of the Australian U/16 side that will take on their U/17 state rivals during the tournament.

This is the first time that 4 local juniors will be part of the one Australian under age tournament. It’s a great achievement for all 4 players, but also everyone involved in cricket development on the Northern Beaches, from the Manly Warringah Junior Cricket Association, Warringah Cricket Club, and of course the Manly Warringah Waratahs (that would be us).
All 4 players performed very well during the U/17 state challenge. Despite still being U/16s, Ollie topped the batting list for the entire 3 day carnival, hitting 218 runs across the 3 matches at an average of 71.00. His 156 on day one for Metropolitan Thunder included an astonishing 13 sixes, and was the highest score of the tournament.

Jack Edwards was his usual majestic self, scoring 95 runs with a top score of 56, while his bowling continues to improve, taking 3 for 38 across the 3 days off 14 overs.

Aiden was a master of concentration behind the stumps as usual. His batting was a little frustrating with plenty of starts but no big scores, hitting 27, 39 and 4 at the top of the order for the Metropolitan Thunder.

Our last member, known only as “Izzy”, bowled with control and variation with his leg spin taking 3 wickets across his 25 overs. Although a little expensive with 155 runs, it’s great to see selectors rewarding young leg spinners who are prepared to through them up and rip ’em

The Australian U/17 Cricket Championships will be held in Brisbane on Monday 26th September through to Thursday 6th October. The 4 boys will unfortunately miss our first 2 rounds (both one-dayers) but it will be an amazing experience for them all.
