Tough start as M1s & PGs get season underway – Weekend Wrap 21st/22nd September 2024

M1s kicked off their season with a trip to Raby Oval for a T20 double-header. Mosman our first opponents, the Tahs bowled first, Josh Seward sprightly early with 3 important wickets. A Ned Hole run out and a wicket to Ahillen Beadle had the Tahs on the front foot, Mosman 5/61, but unfortunately from there things didn’t go the Tahs’ way. The power surge & death overs proving expensive as Mosman clawed to 8/174. Skipper Jay Lenton (59 off 46) and Hole (51 off 36) did their best to give the Tahs a chance in the chase, and despite a late cameo from Beadle (15* off 6), it was too little too late, falling 16 runs short.

Game 2 was a match up against Campbelltown, the Tahs again bowling first and again off to a steady start with the ball. Wickets to Isaiah Vumbaca, Seward, Hole & Jacob O’Sullivan having the game in the balance at 4/62, before another late surge from the opposition saw Campbelltown post 6/192 on the back of some late fireworks. Brynn Mendel (38 off 29) & Joel Foster (53 off 31) gave a great start with some strong ball striking, before Jacob O’Sullivan (54 off 32) brought the Tahs within touching distance with an incredible innings. Unfortunately though, it just wasn’t quite enough, as the Tahs fell 8 runs short of the chase:

Blacktown was the destination for PGs opening round fixture against the host side, skipper Boulton winning the toss & electing to bat. The Tahs began strongly, however, despite starts from Josh Cooper (36), Brodie McDowell (28), and Reuben Kapoor (26), a disappointing display with the bat ensued. Manly all out for 157. An early wicket to Josh Lawson gave us hope, but unfortunately there was little to celebrate from there, as Blacktown passed the total inside 29 overs for the loss of three wickets.

2nd Grade through to 5th Grade get their seasons underway this Saturday with one-day fixtures against Fairfield-Liverpool, 2s & 4s at home. M1s face Easts on Saturday afternoon in a T20, before Manly Oval hosts a T20 double-header on Sunday with M1s & PGs taking on Fairfield-Liverpool.
