A requiem mass and thanks giving was held today for the great friend of our Club, Hugh Tighe.
This mass was largely attended with his family, including 18 grandchildren, and general community members who admired Hugh for his contribution as President of Harbord Diggers and Chairman of the Board. He had an active interest in horseracing and its administration.
Hugh was also remembered for his contribution to his Church including wide involvement in school scripture. Hugh had a most distinguished business career ending as a Director of the national Brambles company. Despite his great success in life Hugh is remembered as an unassuming and humble man.
In the nineties our Treasurer Tony Scanlon arranged for a grant to be awarded to our Club and the Digger’s continued sponsorship flowed from Tony’s efforts.
Hugh also arranged for us to use the Diggers boardroom for our meetings. Previously the Committee had held meetings at each of the Committee members’ homes on rotation. We commenced using the Diggers venue for our annual presentation dinners and other promotions.
We appreciate Hugh’s kindness and generosity to our Club.
Our sincere condolences go to Hugh’s wife Colleen and family.
