Molyneux and Waddington come together as Men’s and Women’s 2021/22 Club Captains confirmed

Sallie Molyneux and Claire Waddington have been named Women’s club captains for 2021/22 as the upcoming season continues to take shape.

They take over from Renee Hough and Abby Taylor after a successful 2 year term.

Josh Wigney and Sam Gainsford are continuing as Men’s club captains after their success last season in wading through the muddy COVID waters.

All 4 have vowed to work closely together over the coming season to make sure that our Men and Women come together regularly and at the right times. It’s an important part of what we are attempting to achieve as a club.

The last 2 seasons have seen the introduction of female club captains for the first time in our history. The roles are continuing to take shape, however with confirmation of a first grade side resulting in the club fielding all 4 grades in 2021/22, the roles will become as important as ever.

With such a young Women’s playing group,  the role presents different challenges and opportunities to the Men. As our Women’s program progresses and our playing group begins to get older, the role will once again evolve.

The Men’s Club Captain has been a mainstay for many years and it’s primary focus was traditionally on the social side of the club. There is no doubt there is now more of a leadership tinge to the role.

Molyneux and Waddington are both local juniors who have great respect within the playing group. Both debuted in 2018/19 and have been part of our program almost from the beginning, with Molyneux starting in the now defunct U15s competition and Waddington in 3rd Grade.

Both have different, complimenting strengths and we are confident they will do a great job in their first year.

Congratulations to all 4 on their appointments.
