Horley Breaking Boundaries while Men have Forgettable Weekend – Weekend Wrap 29th/30th January 2022

kipper Faz got the boys off to a lovely start by winning the toss and batting first on what looked to be a very nice cricket wicket. The top order were unable to capitalize, losing wickets just as partnerships began to form, resulting in the side being kept to 4 for 50 odd off the first 20 overs. A steady partnership from Farrell and J.Davies got the Tahs back on track before losing Davies just as both looked to be taking the game away from Easts. Herd joined the skipper at the crease putting on a quick 20 which was then accompanied by M. Edwards who finished off the innings 26 not out. The highlight of the first 50 overs was Farrell who scored 78 runs at a good rate to give the Manly boys a respectable total of 203 runs to bowl at.

Hadley and West took the new ball for the Tahs bowling genuine pace but were unlucky not to get an early breakthrough for the team. With several plays and misses nothing quite seemed to go our way early. This was then turned from surf fanatic Herd who did 2 direct hit run outs from backward point in the space of about 5 overs to swing the momentum back into our favour. The tight bowling of Carden and J.Davies built up some pressure on the Dolphins which helped J.Edwards pick up the prize wicket of the opening batsman, starting a significant collapse. Hadley, M.Edwards and J.Davies all picking up wickets but fell just short losing by 2 wickets.

fter a great start to the new year the 2s boys confronted another challenge thanks to Covid. With 7 of the previous weeks side unavailable, and a tough matchup against a top 6 team, our depth was put to the test.

The boys rocked up in good spirits to a beautiful Manly oval eager to get stuck in. Gainsy won the toss and decided to send Easts in on a wicket that looked to have plenty of life in it. Seward and Kaye opened up and put Easts under the pump early with a very disciplined opening spell from both ends. Joshy got great purchase out of the wicket and his extra speed and bounce created the first two wickets as debutant Lachie Coyte swallowed both opportunities with ease. Easts fought back after the two early wickets and put on 40 for the 3rd wicket before the ever reliable Neal Prowse got the breakthrough. Wickets tumbled consistently throughout the middle overs with Kaye & Prowse taking two each. Alex Bain and Gainsy bowled well in the back end and helped restrict Easts to a sub par 198.

New look opening pair Bryant and Coyte got us off to a steady start. Unfortunately Benny fell to a decent pellet from their opening quick with the score on 21. Easts bowled with discipline early, limiting scoring opportunities. Coytey and Nappa built a solid platform before Nappa was (see Waratah TV) caught at fine leg off a ball that would’ve hit the Shaquille O’Neal in the chest. Sully came to the crease and continued his great run of form. He and Coytey continued to pile on the runs putting on 68 before Lachie unfortunately had his excellent debut brought to an end on 58. Gainsy came out with plenty of aggression, dispatching his first ball over the rope to the delight of all in attendance. He and Sully continued to hit the ball to all parts of the ground, finishing the game in style.

A great team effort Saturday resulting in one of our most clinical performances of the season. Looking forward to another challenge against Parramatta next week.

he lads turned up to trumper park on a beautiful Saturday morning with great ambition for a wonderful day of cricket ahead.

After losing the toss the manly Boys got sent into bat and on a interesting pitch we lost a few wickets early, but then Lachlan Charles and Evan Dunnachie combined a beautiful partner ship of power and elegance to get the manly lads to 190 with Lachy finishing on 50 and Evan 37*. We then set out to take some early wickets and build pressure in the Field, but unfortunately with some great efforts east’s came out on top, the stand out bowler was again Evan taking 3/35. We look forward to bouncing back next week.

s were set to play at grahams against a strong Easts side. Skipper Rochy won the toss and decided on batting first. The Easts openers started with great discipline and didn’t give the Manly batsman line to work with.

Hayden started with positive intent on his 4th grade debut before a unlucky edge. Jack Melchiore gritted out 16 before chopping on. Boulton and Cooper developed a partnership throughout the middle order of 35. Coops was positive from his first ball and top scored with 29 off 23 balls. Andrew Rochford managed a helpful 10 down the lower order before the Manly boys were dismissed for 110 in the 33rd over.

The Manly boys headed out motivated to put in a fight to defend their low total. Seb opened with great areas before Rochford managed the first breakthrough with a flying edge well caught in the slips by Hayden. The Manly boys managed one more wicket with a knick off Josh caught by Lucius at keeper. The Easts top order punished the loose balls making light work of the Manly total, chasing the 110 in the 21st over 2 wickets down.

A disappointing performance in 4th grade this week but the boys will be back even hungrier to win next week.

anly arrived at Chatswood oval determined to win, Mikaela lost the toss and we were sent into the field. We had them 1-16 and were feeling very confident in the field, then we had them 4-62 and it was looking like we wouldn’t be out there the entire 50 overs. They then built one partnership within their 50 overs and overall reached 9-218.

Manly then went into bat with confidence that 218 could be chased down as Chatswood oval was definitely providing value for good shots. The opening partnership from Zara Shipp and Saskia Horley got us off to a great start, they were 0-51 off the first 6 overs, scoring at a very comfortable run rate. At drinks in the 15th over they were 0-78, Zara Shipp then got out on 29 off 41 balls and Mikaela came in with the same hunger for runs. Mikaela and Saskia built another great partnership with neither of them getting out, Saskia finished on 123* off 109 balls and Mikaela 46* off 54 balls, we won the match in the 33rd over and got ourselves a bonus point win, in which we deserved.

The girls had a great weekend against Gordon, showcasing their absolute class and ability, and again we look forward to moving up on the ladder.

econd grade make it two in a row

his week’s game was at Tunks Park versus UTS North Sydney. We started the fielding off strong with a runout by Sophie and Sallie in the first over and then another runout from Emily and Sallie in the second. An awesome one-handed catch from captain Renee (bowled by Emily) put the pressure on UTS at 3/18.  Our energy dipped a little for the middle session but we ended strong with an LBW from CP and stunning catch from Didi. UTS finished on an achievable 7/177.

Our batting started off with a very solid 80-run partnership by Sarah and Steph, a highlight of Steph retiring on 52*. The middle order took advantages of some no balls to progress us to a solid score. The awesome partnership of Annabelle and Emma for 50 got us over the line to win, but we played on to get some more game experience. Steph came out for another hit to finish on 71* Emma set a new massive PB of 42!

his weeks game was the first 50 over match of the year out at Bankstown and we were sent into bowl.

Charlotte and Jess started the game off well for us with Charlotte removing their 2 openers early leaving Bankstown at 2/9. The batters were starting to settle but a couple of wickets to Eliza brought 2 new batters to the crease. Ellie then came in and bowled well getting a wicket and 2 maidens off her 4 overs. Charlotte came back on getting another wicket before Emily came on getting a couple of wickets and another 1 to Maya saw the end of the Bankstown innings.

Chasing 122 Emily and Maya started us off strong. Then unfortunately, we lost a couple of quick wickets which saw Ellie head out to bat with Em who started building a good partnership before losing a couple more wickets. Ellie and Caitlin then put in a good effort to try and save the game for us but then a batting collapse saw us at 8/51. Charlotte and Caitlin gave us one last chance at the win but another couple of wickets left us all out for 80.
