Talk Talk with Joel Foster – Evans churns through the overs

Welcome to another edition of Tah Talk with Joel Foster. This week we take a look at quality and quantity of Lewis Evans, Sienna James continuing to turn heads, and our U19 boys going to the Australian Championships.

A big thank you to Scott MacNeill and the team at Gibson MacNeill Lawyers for their new partnership with this season. If you have any legal needs big or small, visit them at www.gibsonmacneill.com.au

Evans churns through the overs

It’s an interesting time for cricket on the workload front.

There are plenty of theories about players not bowling enough in games as youngsters, while plenty of Performance experts are clear that the number of overs players bowl needs to be carefully managed.

Well try telling that to Lewis Evans, our recruit from the ACT this season. Lewis bowled a staggering 68 overs last week in all formats of cricket.

This included 40 over across 2 innings in the ACT 2nd XI’s clash with South Australia, then another 28 in our 2-day matchup with Northern Districts on Saturday and Sunday.

I can’t re-call ever hearing someone bowl that many overs in a week. He’ll get a good rest at training this week.

But it wasn’t just the quantity that was amazing, the quality was there also. Figures of 4 for 122 and 6 for 38 for the ACT were backed up by 4 for 63 and 2/63 for us over the weekend.

Lewis has really fitted in well with the club since his arrival. He is a knock about man but is also highly intelligent and knows his cricket. Bowls quick as well.

We’ll see more of him this weekend against Sutherland.

Sienna leads the way

I have received some great feedback about the leadership of our W3s skipper Sienna James over the last few weeks.

Despite going down on the weekend, W3s have been one of our most consistent sides this season, and Sienna has played a big part.

After coming through our junior ranks, Sienna debuted for the club in 2017/18, showing great potential with both bat and ball.

She took a break from the game for a few years after the 2020/21 season but has now been back playing for the Tahs for the last 3 seasons.

In a move that was always bound to happen, this season she has moved into the Captaincy role this season and has never looked more comfortable.

Sienna has been a model of consistency with the bat all season, leading from the front with 160 runs at an average of 32.

She has not scored above 35 yet so will be looking for her first half century of the season this weekend, but that shows how consistent she has been. She was at it again on Saturday with 30*.

Over the last few seasons our W3s side has been as successful as anyone, and Sienna looks like she will lead her team to another successful season.

They are currently sitting 2nd on the ladder.

Keep an eye out for some big scores over the coming weeks from Sienna.

Good luck at U19 champs

Best of luck to our 3 NSW U19 players who head to the Australian Championships on Sunday after our coming round.

Myles Kapoor and Julian Osbourne will be lining up for NSW Metro, while Harry Kershler will take his place in the NSW Country squad.

These championships are a great opportunity for young cricketers to perform under pressure, as well as learn to deal with big match cricket.

It’s certainly a time I look back on fondly with my own career.

Myles and Julian have both been seen in our 1st Grade side this season, and I have seen some of the quality of their work with my own eyes.

Harry is still coming through the grades but is thought of very highly at both our club and by Cricket NSW. Anytime a quality left arm leg-spinner plays the game of cricket it provides plenty of excitement.

Go get them boys.
