Tah Talk with Joel Foster – Brewers ready to roll

Welcome to the this week’s edition of Tah Talk with Joel Foster for 2026. This week we take a look at Brewer Shield returning to action, Lauren Kua being back in the runs, and huge week 2 up against Parramatta for the boys.

A big thank you once again to Scott MacNeill and the team at Gibson MacNeill Lawyers for their partnership with this season. If you have any legal needs, no matter the size, visit them at www.gibsonmacneill.com.au

Brewers ready to role

It feels like an age since they last played, but Brewer Shield are back on the cricket field this weekend.

Brewers is a funny grade at the best of times. It obviously is a ‘named’, competition, much in the same name as the Men’s U/16 Green Shield competition.

As a result, many assume it is a time boxed competition like Greenies, however it is actually run week to week in line with the other Women’s Grades.

In-fact, it is actually classed as being above 3rd Grade but below 2nd Grade, juch like Men;s 4th Grade is above 5th Grade but below 3rd Grade.

It is also an U/18 competition, but as the depth in Women’s cricket still has a bit to go, it has mostly 14 and 15 year olds playing.

Which brings us back to the competition starting again this weekend. Most likely it is to not impede on Peden Shield, which is the junior reps U15s competition run by the MWJCA, running throughout the month of January.

Our girls actually made the Peden Shield final on Monday, and despite going down to Blacktown, almost all of the team will be back in action with Brewer Shield this Sunday.

We are in 4th place coming into the run home, and a finals birth beckons.

Best of luck to skipper Daisey Addison and the entire team.

Kua provides carnage

Despite going down in the final moments of Sunday’s game, it was great seeing Lauren Kua back to her best, scoring a brilliant run a ball hundred.

Lauren has not turned out for us as much as we were hoping this season, but that is a positive for her.

After losing her NSW contract this year, she has actually played more cricket for the Blues this season that previous seasons. Go figure.

but batting lower down the order has meant less time at the crease, and less runs as a result.

But you wouldn’t know it seeing her bat on Sunday. She was as fluent as ever with 14 boundaries, all of which caressed off her bat.

Despite the great innings, we just weren’t able to come away with the win. It’s been a tough old season for our Women’s 1st Grade side but the experience some of our immensely talented young players are receiving will put us in good stead for coming season.

On a side note, it was great seeing Arabella Handley return from injury on Sunday in W1s. She is a future superstar if she can get her body right, so it’s very exciting to see her back on the field.

Big weekend ahead for the boys

We have developed a great rivalry with Parramatta as a club over the last few years, and this continued in day 1 action last weekend

Some grades went our way, some went theirs, but over all it was a fairly even contest.

We are hoping the results tip in our favour over the weekend. If we are any chance of taking out this years Club Championship, we need to get the points across as many grades as possible.

Parramatta are sitting in 1st place in the Club Champs race, a full 134 points ahead of us in 4th place. But if we can jag wins in all 5 grades this weekend, it puts us right in the hunt.

Our destiny is in our own hands.
