Tah Talk with Joel Foster – Wigney the winner

Tah Talk with Joel Foster is back for another jam-packed edition. This week we take a look at Josh Wigney’s first day as skipper, the Women going 4 from 4, and the upcoming Don Sellin life celebration.

A big thank you once again to Scott MacNeill and the team at Gibson MacNeill Lawyers for their partnership with this season. If you have any legal needs, no matter the size, visit them at www.gibsonmacneill.com.au

Wigney the winner

Third choice M3s Captain Josh Wigney showed we have some great leadership in the Men’s playing Group.

Josh is a decade plus player with Manly and is not far from 300 wickets.

With Sam Webber away and Sam Hole injured, Wigs took control of his team in the field and showed great maturity to lead M3s into a winning position.

All clubs need players like Josh Wigney. Closer to 30 than 20, plenty of passion for his club, and a selfless attitude, Josh has been a winner for all of his playing career at Manly.

He is now part of the committee and puts in his share of work off the field, performing a core role in our Media Team.

On Saturday he showed he can lead others to win on the field as well.

With the Tahs at 0/17 chasing 180, the game is there for the taking this weekend.

As much as they have improved over the years, hopefully Josh won’t be needed to display his skills with the willow.

W1s show their style

Chelsea McLerie’s first grade side showed they have some fight with a great win last Sunday.

They took on Sydney, the perennial powerhouse in the Women’s game, and came away with a well-constructed 5 wicket win.

Our big players stood up. Chelsea herself was great at the start of the Sydney innings, while Lauren Kua led the way with the bat. Kaya Punter was also outstanding with both bat and ball as we know she can be.

It was also great to see Chelsea herself and Arabella Handley finish off the run chase.

But it wasn’t just our Women’s 1st Grade side that came away with the win. All 4 Women’s Grade across the weekend came up trumps.

It was our first clean sweep of the season.

While it is happening at the back end, it shows we are on the right trajectory and with this years’ experience, watch out next year.

Dollars Memorial

Don’t forget the celebration of the life of Don “Dollars” Sellin is happening next Friday 27th February at Manly Bowling Club.

Starting at 4pm, I can’t wait to hear the stories of Mike Pawley, David Gainsford and others on what was an inspiration life.

Dollars faced many challenges but always showed up, always put in.

One thing I didn’t realise about Dollars was his love of the Warringah Rats as a timekeeper for many years. I have heard some funny stories about his time behind the clock.

Looking forward to seeing as much of the Manly Cricket community there as possible.
