The Manly Warringah Waratahs are proud to announce Karen Judson as the October recipient of the Westfield Warringah Mall Volunteer of the Month award. This award is available to Manly Warringah junior clubs and Manly Warringah Waratahs volunteers and is proudly sponsored by Westfield Warringah Mall.
Karen volunteered and took over as the Girls Coordinator for Wakehurst Redbacks Cricket Club during the 2019/20 Season, at a time of rapid growth for the girl’s competition. During the current 2020/21 season Karen has been instrumental in setting up the teams and the season for girls’ cricket at Wakehurst.
She has organised both cricket clinics and tailored come-and-try sessions for the girls during the preseason, including a clinic run by Manly grade players and a level 2 accredited coach for the U15 Girls. This provided great opportunities for those progressing through the girl’s competition levels to learn new skills and have fun with girls at their own stage.
Pre-season clinics covered each of the girl’s formats:
- Master Blasters – some great fun games and learning the Master Blaster format
- U11Girls – getting used to putting on all the equipment on and learning skills and game practice
- U13 Girls – introduction to the hard ball and skill development in batting and bowling techniques
- U15 Girls – technique and fun game practice
During these restrictive and uncertain times Karen gave a huge amount of time and energy during the preseason. And all this with her own daughter having out-grown the MWJCA girl’s competition and progressing into grade cricket with Manly.
MWJCA, the Manly Warringah Waratahs and the girls on the Northern Beaches are truly grateful for Karen’s passion and commitment. It’s thanks to hard work from volunteers like Karen that the girls’ game has been able to flourish.
Phill Edwards and Karen’s daughter, Laura, presented Karen with the award in recognition of her club focus, community spirit and hard work. She is exactly the type of enthusiastic helper that helps drive the continuous growth and success of junior cricket, both boys and girls, on the Northern Beaches. She received a certificate of the award as well as a $250 voucher courtesy of our great friends at Westfield Warringah Mall.
